2009-10 Scholarship Recipients

Christopher Beavo
Christopher’s plans are to pursue an accounting degree at Southwestern Michigan College and to eventually work for the Six Flags Corporation.  His involvement in the Business and Professionals of American in high school was a good background for exploring this professional area.  Christopher participated in basketball and also worked at a Meijer’s store and Perkin’s Restaurant.

Kenzie Carpenter
Kenzie’s career plan is to obtain a degree in psychology at St. Mary’s College.  Her high school years were filled with activities ranging from playing golf and soccer to being a class officer, a member of the student council, S.A.D.D. National Honor Society, student newspaper staff member and captain of the color guard.  Kenzie also volunteered at the Humane Society and Uptown Improvement Association and worked in the office of Carmi Design Group of Edwardsburg.

Courtney Lynn Davis
Courtney is in the nursing program at Bethel College.  She has been an honor student throughout her high school career while being active in many extra-curricular programs from athletics to service organizations.  Courtney played   volleyball and was a member of the varsity track team.  She was also a member of the student council, a class officer and served on the prom committee.  She has worked at Stacy’s Food and Spirits Restaurant and was selected Miss Edwardsburg 2009.


Kathryn Dutoi
Kathryn is pursuing a career in nursing at Southwestern Michigan College with an end goal of working in a surgery department.  Kathryn was very active in high school.  She was a member of student council, S.A.D.D. and Business and Professionals of America and was also a member of the JV cheerleading squad and on the varsity golf team.  She volunteered in many areas including working at the tennis youth camp, the children’s safety day and Lakeland Hospital.  Kathryn worked as a waitress cashier at Prime Table in Niles while keeping this busy schedule.

Matthew Haines
Matthew is attending Ferris State University, planning a career in Music Industry Management.  Matthew’s goal is to manage a recording studio.  He participated in JV soccer in high school and volunteered at the local food pantry.  Ha also worked at Burger King as a kitchen manager and at Ivy Tech Community College as a sales associate.

Amber Harris
Amber is attending Southwestern Michigan College pursuing a career in nursing.  She hopes to transfer to Ferris State University after two years to obtain her bachelor degree.  Amber as involved in H.O.P.E,  S.A.D.D. and was also a member of the National Honor Society.  She participated in the high school musical and was second runner up in the Miss Edwardsburg contest.  Amber also worked at the Four Lakes Country Club.

Chris Hathaway
Chris is attending Western Michigan University with a career goal of teaching biology or becoming a doctor.  During high school Chris was a member of S.A.D.D., H.O.P.E and participated in the Education Talent Search program.  Chris also worked at Harding’s Market in Edwardsburg performing a variety of duties.

Joshua Klosinski
Joshua is a student at Grand Valley State University pursuing a major in mechanical engineering with a minor in geology.  He would like to have a job in the area of tool and die.  Joshua wrestled all four years of high school and also ran cross country in his senior year. Joshua also worked in Dan LaFree’s wood shop during his high school years.

Frank LaPorte
Frank is a student at Southwestern Michigan College planning t complete two years before transferring to Ferris State University to pursue studies in graphic design.  Frank was a member of both the varsity soccer and varsity tennis teams.He was also a member of H.O.P.E. and S.A.D.D. and studied graphic design as a student at the Elkhart Area Career Center.  Frank held various jobs while attending high school working at Harding’s Market, Stacy’s Food and Spirits Restaurant and the Marathon mini mart.

Casandra Pierucki
Casandra is a student at Southwestern Michigan College pursing a two year business degree with plans to attend the Ferris Status University classes on the SMC campus to obtain her bachelors degree.  Casandra works at Lochmandy Motors which gives her a background in office and other business areas.  She participated in the Science Olympiad qualifying for state competition with the team.

Nicholas Ramirez, Jr.
Nicholas is a student at Ivy Tech studying digital media with a goal of becoming a professional film producer.  Nicholas was a student at the Elkhart Area Career Center and active in several organizations including Education Talent Search, H.O.P.E devoting 130 hours to community service, Technical Honor Society, first place winner at the state level contest of Business and Professionals of America.  Nicholas also worked at Martin’s Super Market in Granger starting as a service clerk and moving to cashiering and working at the Starbuck’s Barista.

Jordan Redman
Jordan plans his first year at Southwestern Michigan College taking general education classes in anticipation of transferring to a four-year institution to pursue a degree in business.  Jordan was involved in several activities including four years in marching band, a member of S.A.D.D., volunteering with Relay for Life and working at a soup kitchen, vacation bible school and blood drive.  Jordan also worked at both Appleby’s and McDonalds.

Gage Smith
Gage is a student at Southwestern Michigan College with a career goal of IT Professional.  Gage enjoys various computer and business related classes. His involvement and enjoyment ofcomputers and various aspects of technology led him to determine that this is a viable career area with many job opportunities.

Jessica White
Jessica is a student at Southwestern Michigan College studying nursing.  Her plan is to obtain her Associate degree and transfer to Grand Valley State University to pursue a bachelor degree in nursing.  Jessica’s high school years were very busy.  She was involved in freshman and JV volleyball, S.A.D.D., H.O.P.E, National Honor Society and student council.  She accumulated 175 hours of community service by volunteering for Relay for Life, at the Humane Society and the Homeless Center.
