2013-14 Scholarship Recipients
Alyssa will begin her post secondary education at Southwestern Michigan College and plans to transfer to Bethel College after two years to complete an elementary education degree. During her high school career, she had been involved in mentoring elementary students. She also was amember of the National Honor Society , SADD, the yearbook staff, and the Hope group. She was a member of the LEOs and worked on community service projects through these groups. As well as volunteering at the Edwardsburg Little League and Rocket Football concession stands.
Kirsta is enrolled at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, to major in biology with a goal of a career in forensic science. She plans to do post graduate work in the area of Hematology. During high school, Kirsta was a member of SADD, the National Honor Society, and the Student Council . She also was in the high school chorus and participated in solo and ensemble. Outside of school , Kirsta volunteered with the Logan Center theatre group and the Hunger Bowl. She also has been active in her church youth group.
Haley is enrolled at Michigan State University in the study of mathematics. Her high school career saw her involved in SADD, LEO’s, the Student Council and the National Honor Society. She also participated in tennis, cross country and track as well as volleyball. Haley is employed at Mancino’s where she makes pizza and grinders and is a cashier.
Anthony is enrolled at Grand Valley State in a criminal justice and pre-law curriculum. His lifetime interest has been in the areas of American government and political science. Anthony was a member of the tennis team for four years and participated in the Edwardsburg Fun Run and Cass County Cancer Service as a volunteer. He was also a member of the National Honor Society. He has worked at the Lakeland Athletic Club for the past three summers.
Kourtney plans to attend Ferris State University to pursue a degree in accounting and Japanese with a minor in business. While in high school Kourtney was a member of the Leos, participating in community service projects. She also works at Bob Evans restaurant as a server/waitress.
Connor is enrolled at Lake Michigan College where he plans to be a member of its music ensemble for a year and compete prerequisites. He plans to transfer to Western Michigan University to pursue his music education and hopes to be chosen for the Bronco marching band. His career goal is to be a band director and percussion instructor. Connor’s high school years reflect his passion for music.
Lukas plans to attend Central Michigan University to major in pre-med with an ultimate goal of becoming a cardio-thoracic surgeon. Lukas has been an active participant during his high school years, participating in Varsity Soccer, National Honor Society, Education Talent Search, the LEOs and SADD. He also works at Ace Hardware and Texas Road House.
Brittney is enrolled at the Kendall College of Art in Grand Rapids and plans to transfer to Ferris State University to pursue a degree in Graphic Design. Brittney has been involved in SADD and a volunteer with HOPE. She has also volunteered at the youth soccer camp and is employed at Little Caesars.
Emily is enrolled at Grand Valley State University majoring in Business Marketing and Accounting. During her high school career, Emily has been involved in many activities including SADD, LEOs, HOPE, Future Problem Solvers, and National Honor Society. She also was a varsity cheerleader and a member of the varsity track team. Rounding out her activities, Emily was a member of the varsity choir, the women’s choir and concert choir and also participated in four musicals during her high school years. Emily is also active in her church youth group. She currently works at Applebee's as a team hostess.
Amber plans to enroll at Southwestern Michigan College to complete pre-requisites for a pre-med undergraduate degree at a four year university. During her high school years Amber participated in cross country, soccer, marching band, color guard, and the Science Olympiad, and volunteered for the Special Olympics basketball program. Amber works at Sonic during the summer as a car-hop.
